5 days/4 nights itinerary from ROME
Day 1: Rome – Montefalco
Pick up in Rome and private transfer towards Umbria and Montefalco. On the way towards Montefalco we stop at Orte for a self walking tour of this beautiful village and a coffee before reaching Umbria. Once we arrive here we stop in Bevagna where we enjoy a beautiful lunch at a local Osteria with an introduction to some local dishes. Here in Bevagna we will also meet our tour guide for a walking tour of the village and an introduction to the world of Umbria wine heritage. After lunch we move towards Tenuta Castelbuono, a must see Estate in the heart of Umbria. which design and architecture was realized by the famous Pomodoro artist. The Carapace – name of the estate – is the result of the Lunelli family’s dream of having a winery that is also a treasure chest for wine. From the Lunellis’ long-standing friendship with Arnaldo Pomodoro and their previous collaboration (which had led the great artist to create “Centenarium”, the sculpture that celebrates a century of history of the Ferrari winery) sprang the idea of suggesting that he – whose sculptures adorn important sites all over the world – should design the winery. Pomodoro enthusiastically accepted the challenge of creating a work that called into question the dividing lines between sculpture and architecture and which forged a dialogue both with the outside – the landscape in which it would be inserted – and with what would be inside: with the wine for whose production it had to be strictly functional . Here we will meet Aurora for the wine tour and tasting of the 4 Umbrian best labels of the winery. We’ll start tasting the Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, the Montefalco Riserva DOC, the Montefalco Rosso Zigurat and the Passito. At the end of the tasting we’ll reach the hotel (around 5 pm) La Ghirlanda Wine Resort, where we will have a beautiful welcoming dinner.
Overnight: La Ghirlanda Wine Resort
Day 2: Montefalco – Assisi – Todi
This morning we check out and with our driver we move towards Assisi. Here we have a beautiful walking tour of the town with a stop for a coffee with our local tour guide, before going towards Cantina di Filippo. Here we will have the opportunity to live a special organic experience. This is an incredible story of 2 generations of winemakers who have passionately dedicated themselves to the land with a vision of organic cultivation. Their philosophy starts in the vineyard: they are convinced that high-quality grapes can only be produced by working with care and by showing respect for the principles and rhythms of nature and the soil. By embracing the conviction of low yield, correct management of the soil’s resources, and harvesting at the right moment of maturation, they help the land to give its best. They have always wanted to respect the environment, and combine the love they have for their work with quality production. As a result, they decided to experiment viticulture which has a low impact on the environment. They now have 4 hectares of vineyard where no machines are used, and almost everything is carried out with the help of animals. In 2009 they also had the idea of introducing draught horses, because their treading the ground between the vines greatly reduces compacting of the soil compared with tractors, which inevitably destroy the soil structure and reduce its fertility. With this tour we will enjoy a special private wine tour..on a horse carriage! We will have a tour of the vineyards with a stop along the tour for an appetizer with local products, before coming back to the winery for a private wine tasting with food pairing. A real light lunch experience!
At the end of the tour we get on the van and go towards the next hotel, the Todini wine Resort, where we’re staying for 2 nights. Once we arrive we check in and enjoy a great dinner.
