Enter the magical land of the Cinque Terre, five unique fishing villages along the Ligurian Coast, known as Italy’s ‘Flower-Riviera’. Walking along the coastal footpaths offers striking views of lush Mediterranean vineyards and wild flowers abloom; while further inland there are tantalizing pine and chestnut forests. Travel by train or boat from Monterosso to picturesque villages where you can savor the delicious local cuisine and relax with a glass of white wine in an outdoor café overlooking the sea.

Day 1 – Arrival in Florence

Arrival at Florence airport. Private transfer to the hotel reserved. Rest of the day at disposal. We can book visits and activities. Overnight

Day 2 – Florence

Full day at disposal. We can book visits and activities. Overnight

Day 3 – Florence – Monterosso

Individual transfer to the train station and train ride to Monterosso (change of train in Pisa). On arrival individual transfer to the hotel reserved. As soon as you get settled in your accommodation, step outside and breathe in the incredibly fresh, crisp air of the Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon you can visit the historic centre, and in the evening, let all your senses be delighted as you prepare for your phenomenal walking adventure ahead. Overnight

Day 4 –   Monterosso (selection of walkings)

Take the chance to spend a day hanging around the Cinque Terre, enjoy the sun and the blue sea. As an alternative you can choose to walk one the itineraries described below. Before departing for your walk, go to the Park Information Office at Monterosso Train statin and collect your Cinque Terre Card.

WALK A: Walk or Taxi to Soviore and walk back to Monterosso via Vernazza – Walk or take a bus or taxi to the Soviore Sanctuary where you can stop for a visit before starting the walk to Monterosso via Vernazza. From the sanctuary you walk on asphalt road, and then take a nice panoramic path that slightly descends to the Madonna di Reggio. Continue walking on a stone path down to Vernazza where you take the panoramic coastal path back to Monterosso. To shorten the walk, you can stop in Vernazza and take a train back to Monterosso. Overnight

Challenge: 4 hours, 10 km, 643m ascent, 1098m descent

WALK B: Corniglia-Volastra-Riomaggiore-Manarola – Reach Corniglia by train from Monterosso and reach the village. Then you walk up and take the path towards Volastra that finally will take you to Riomaggiore. Once you arribe in Riomaggiore, take a train to go back to Monterosso. Overnight.

Challenge: 4 hours, 10 km, 471m ascent, 448m descent

WALK C: Monterosso-Vernazza-Corniglia – Today you walk along the busy coastal trail that connects the five villages of the Cinque Terre. The trail contours the coastline, ascending and descending, and it includes some stone staircases that can be challenging. The route is straightforward and easy to follow. Overnight

Challenge: 3 hours, 7 km, 482m ascent, 404m descent

Day 5 – Monterosso to Bonassola via Levanto

The day’s walk is along the coastline following the most popular trail in Liguria (n.1). You can stop in Levanto for a visit of the centre and of the Sant’ Andrea Church. The trail is characterized by spectacular views on the Cinque Terre and on the Levante Ligure. To avoid the second part of the walk along the hills, you can take the train in Levanto or walk on the cycle path towards Bonassola. Overnight

Challenge: 3/4 hours, 10 km, 770m ascent, 774m descent

Day 6 – Bonassola to Deiva Marina

Today you walk through the hills of theEast Riviera, between Bonassola, Framura and Deiva Marina. The first part of this walk is extremely panoramic with wonderful views over the northern Ligurian coast. Visit the nice villages of Bonassola and Deiva Marina and after the walk return to Monterosso by train. Overnight

Challenge: 5 hours, 12.5 km, 657m ascent, 643m descent

Day 7 –  Bonassola / departure

The trip and our services end after breakfast. Take a a train to Pisa, Genoa, Florence or Milan airports or proceed with your trip in Italy

Trip Grade: These walks, though not very long, are moderate to demanding because of the steep hills. Several walks can be shortened

Activity characteristics: The walks are along well marked footpaths and mule tracks. It can be tiring walking along the stone steps of diverse sizes. Take the local train to get to and from the walks. The park wardens try to keep all of the paths open throughout the year, however heavy rains and summer fires can cause temporary closure of certain stretches, so be sure to check with the park office

  • Self guided walking tour requires individuals to use problem solving skills, be adaptable and have a keen eye. It is recommended that you are comfortable map reading, referring to route notes and that you have a good sense of direction (or are willing to work on improving this!) Sometimes route finding, losing your way, finding it again and asking the locals for help is all part of the adventure.
