Fort of Bard is one of the best exemples of 19th century barrier fortress in the Alps. The fortress is set up on different levels (between 400 and 467 meters) and it has 283 rooms in total. Thanks to its strategic position at the entrance of Valle d’Aosta, it’s an extremely panoramic place with views of the Alps and the valleys below. Because of its grandeur, Marvel chose the fortress to set the crucial scenes of the movie AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The Fort is now, after a careful restoration, one of the main museum and cultural pole of the Alps. Inside the fortress, accessible by futuristic external glass lifts with stunning views, you can visit the Museum of the Alps, the Prison and Opera Ferdinando with the Museum of Fortifications and the Museum of Frontiers. The huge monumental complex has also rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions (mainly of painting and photography), a cafeteria and the characterful restaurante La Polveriera, ancient ammunition and gunpowder depot, where we will have lunch. Moreover at the Forte it’s possibile to stay in one of the 11 exclusive rooms of the elegant, refined hotel CAVOUR ET DES OFFICIERS, located in the halls of the old garrison.
