La Baraggia Biellese, a plateau that lies between 150 and 340 meters of altitude, is a natural reserve managed by the Piedmont Region. A dense moor of ferns and heather alternates with vast grasslands, giving the area the appearance of the African savannah. A unique environment thanks to its geographical location at the foot of the Alps. Its entire territory is particularly suitable for hiking but, even more, for E-bike itineraries. After meeting in Cascina Foresto and a briefing on the correct use of E-Bikes, we will set off to cross the “Biella savannah”. There are itineraries of different difficulty and length, suitable for both beginners and advanced bikers. The route with the E-bikes also reaches the historic medieval village “RICETTO” of Candelo, a magical place, perfectly preserved, where you can breathe the history and culture of the Middle Ages. The two best seasons to spend a day in Baraggia are certainly spring with the awakening of the colors of nature and autumn, when it truly seems to cross a stretch of Africa. At the end of the excursion, you will have the opportunity to take a shower and in a few minutes by car you will reach the Castle of Castellengo, a 17th century building, currently home to the “100 VIGNE” winery.
The guided tour of the historic cellars, followed by a tasting of “100 VIGNE” wines and local products, will be the worthy conclusion to an unforgettable day. If you want to make the experience even more special, it
will be possible to spend a night in the castle, sleeping in the charming B&B “La Carosera.”
